Yoga before birth is movement and connection. It helps you get in touch with yourself, your body and your awareness. The exercises bring movement and attention to your body. Meditation and breathing strengthen your self-awareness and self-confidence. Yoga deepens the connection between body, spirit and soul. Prenatal yoga supports you throughout your pregnancy and gives you a holistic preparation for birthing, nurturing and recovering.
Movement: You get to move and stretch using various yoga exercises. These help to prevent and alleviate physical discomforts. They also enhance your strength, energy and vitality.
Breathing: Getting to know your breath. You train to expand and use it in order to employ it in various situations, including birth.
Birth Preparation / Pain Coping: By letting go and keeping up at the same time you prepare yourself for birthing.
Letting go/relaxing/opening/being soft seem to be in juxtaposition to keeping up/staying strong/pulling through/being brave. Both these qualities happen simultaneously throughout birth (and parenthood.) Letting them happen at the same time and in the body is an ideal preparation for birthing.
Meditation: Learning to connect with a calm, centered space within. While so many things go on in life and the world, it is helpful to establish a practice with the meditative space. Meditation does not have to mean being in an almost holy state of non-thinking or emptiness. It can mean to use a bit of time to “just” connect with yourself, your breath and your awareness. This can be learned and used to gather strength, patience and confidence.
POST NATAL YOGA "BEING A MOTHER - STAYING A WOMAN"
Each birth brings changes with it. For the woman who gave birth these changes happen on many different levels. Only one of them is the body- looking to come into a new, non-pregnant state. It is important to give all the various processes happening during this time enough space and attention. Post Natal Yoga provides the time and space for movement, awareness, connection to self and the baby, meditation and orientation.
Movement: You can move, stretch and relax using various yoga exercises. Special exercises for an often strained back and shoulders are always part of the lesson. Specific movements are intended to increase strength, endurance and vitality. At the same time, there are also always sequences that help relax and soothe the body.
Pelvic floor training: The muscles of the pelvic floor get strained by pregnancy and birth. The pelvic floor needs time and attention to find a new, strong state. In consecutive exercises you get to familiarize yourself with these muscles, activating and strengthening them repeatedly. A strong pelvic floor gives you a reliable basis that can hold and support you on more than just a physical level.
